Today I will be talking about something that many may find a bit embarrassing...

Hair loss can be painful and embarrassing and is something many people have encountered for different reasons.

This is a picture of me from 2014, my hair is in a very healthy state.

This is a picture of me on June 29th 2017 after taking out my braids. My hair is in a very DIFFERENT state. The length was reduced by at LEAST half and has thinned significantly.
I'm sure you are all wondering what caused this change...
I am an individual who lives with chronic illness, it is important to maintain healthy behaviors and overall lifestyle. With continued education, support from family and friends and personal effort I have been able to maintain excellent health over the years.

The state of a person's health can be reflected in their appearance, how their body reacts to the environment, their behavior, etc.

(These pictures are from 2015)
Anyone can have difficulty with their health from time to time and there can be many factors involved.
I was experiencing high levels of workplace stress, this in turn impacted my body and my ability to maintain the healthy behaviors that would support my good health.
Many illness can be made MORE difficult to manage when stress increases.
However there is hope!
When your body is trying to tell you something it is important to listen and seek help.
A few strategies I used were talking to friends and family when stressed and plan my healthy meals better when I saw scheduling, lack of maintenance of the refrigerators or the low number of microwaves in the workplace were a concern.
When my body started sending my more signals my Mom went with me to see our family physician and the specialists she recommended.
I followed their recommendations which included leaving the workplace to recover and focus on maintaining my health.
It was disappointing to see the amount of hair loss that occurred, however I had already encountered hair loss as a ninth grader due to health concerns.

(With time, love and care (especially from my Mom) my health got better and my hair grew back)
I know that with time and proper care just as my overall health improved my hair will recover too.
